Code 39 (3 of 9)

CODE 39 is the bar code developed by Intermec Corporation in 1975. Total 43
characters including numbers, alphabets and some symbols can be included in the bar code. Since alphabets can be handled, CODE 39 is indispensable in the industrial fields and used in FA industries such as automobiles and electronics. It is standardized by AIAG (Automotive Industry Action Group) in U.S.A.

Code 39 Basics:

Character Type:

• Numeric values (0 to 9)
• Alphabet
• Symbol (-, ., space, $, /, +, %)
• Start/stop character (*: asterisk)

Features:
Availability of alphabet and symbol allows indication of article numbers.

Printable Digits:
Any digits

Bar Structure:

• Two bar sizes
• Uses asterisk * for start/stop character
• Indicates one character with five bars and four spaces.

Application performance:

• Widely used as the industrial bar code.
